I thought CVT was the next big leap in trannies....why does it seem like work has stalled on it?

I guess that explains it....

my mom's murano has cvt in it nice a smoth but robs power, don't like it!

My mom has one too, burnt copper with the matching leather interior.

That guy needs to pull his head out of his ***. The CVT we played with, that a fellow student designed had no belts or pulleys. It wasn't even wholely oringinal either. It was based off existing designs that have been out there for awhile. That guy's a tool.

Why don't they just take a 4spd auto, and add an under/overdrive unit to it. Program the damned thing so it can gear split. Wallah, you have an 8spd auto. You'd even have two reverse gears too. WOW! My 4spd auto was crap and I imagine an 8spd auto would be twice as crappy. 3 planetaries and a ****-ton more clutch packs is a lot more to go wrong IMO. It probably weighs a metric ton too. Any mileage benifits it creates it probably sacrifices due to weight and all the power it'll rob. It's sad when we live in a world that can put men on the moon, magically insert syrup into bread, and create mind altering drugs, but we can't create a decent production automatic transmission. If its strong, then the gear ratios suck, if the gear ratios are decent, then its weak. If the gear ratios rock then it doesn't bolt to your engine. Ahhh....I'll stop now.

CVT's are the future, pass it on.

I saw some patents for the CVT as well, so that may still be a go
