"Bolt in" is exactly Rick's words..."The funny thing is I did not have to break out the welder at all. We are talking a straight forward swap. No fab work, all we did was attached the one cable to the ebrake and secured it with stainless line. We had to modify your brackets only by opening the bolt holes some to fit in the same area because the 14 bolt is thicker in some areas. So let others know it bolts right in. Nothing to be afraid of. All it was, was time. It took us time swapping over the brake lines, which bolt right up. Bleed the brakes, and all was well." I'll still post up some pics when I get it home...

Thank you for the offer! I did pick up a set of VERY low mile GM 4.10 take-outs from a guy that installed 4.88s on his Hummer. Rick says he is not a fan of running low gears if you have real torque to do the work...so we'll see what happens. If the Gov-Loc does fail I'll be installing a Tru-Trac, and you guys will be the first to hear about it.

Honestly, when I started all this 4 years ago my "plan" was to just give my little 4.8 some umph...never thought that I would be chasing 600/600! Now I'm just hoping that the Gov-Loc will make it through 2009 because I fear that my FLT Level 4 4L60 will be the next casualty (likely an input or output shaft failure), and when it does I'll be moving up to a built 4L85...need to put cash in the bank for that one!

In and done, Had to narrow the axle 3/4" from ea. end. Also converted the outer bearing journals to the older large dia. version to accept larger A/M axles.
OEM 3.73 gears and a Tru-Trac.

Smoked the tires and broke the tranny........

next mod????? 4L80!

Whats worse HP or Weight? Or wanting both?

@.100 on the inner and .200 on the outer.

10 bolt axles are Not even 1.50 Dia.(Never carred to measure them) SUV axle shaft Lenght is 33 1/2 ea.

OBS 14 bolt axles are 1.705 Yukon A/M axle lenght 33 1/4 ea.

NBS-NNBS F/S SUV 14 bolt are 1.618 and 34" in lenght.

MY Axle was from a 2008 Escalade, I removed the axles, cut the tubes down 3/4" on ea. side. Swapped out the ends from an OBS 14 bolt axle,I then corrected them for proper offset from drum to disc, clocked the flanges accordingly and welded them. I removed the wheel speed sensors, and installed the above mentioned yukon axles listed along with a detroit tru-trac. Everything bolted up properly with the wheels sitting back in the proper location.(within 1/4" combined)

so your escalade axle had drums? i think some have disk. i'll look into that. as far as the length goes i think i may be ok with the stock nnbs length because my rims are for nnbs suv's with the "correct" back spacing for them. that's why gm says they won't work on our body suv's. do you think A/M axles are needed or did you just want to have them? also those wheel sensors i have to keep. I'm glad you said they have those. my active brake management JL4 rpo uses these sensors to know which wheel to brake. if i don't have them it will (i'm sure) give me all kinds of CEL's. even though i have a locker back there these things activate on a skid and what not too. i'm hoping if i do find one with disk brakes that my stock dual piston calipers will bolt onto them.
