Default 99 Sierra V8 4x4 NV3500 axle woes

SO, i'm looking to upgrade my axles and fro what I've read, the 06 GT4/5 AXN is a straight bolt in correct? Swap my brake calipers and rotors over and it bolts right up? How about the front? Is the GT4/5 from a Burban or Tahoe the same as well? I know the GT4/5 is the gear ratio, I currently have a GT4 in the truck now. I figured since I have 265s on it, 4.10s would help it along a bit better. Also, the truck is lifted, about 2" rear and 4" up front. WHat can I do to correct rear pinion angle for the driveshaft? I plan on sticking a stg 2 cammed LS3 in the truck and either doing the RSG TR6060, NV4500 or TR4060 trans to hold up to the power of that engine. I like the fact that it's a stick truck and everything is manual, even the xfer case, so I wanna keep it that way as much as possible. Any other tips/needed parts I'm missing is greatly appreciated!

What are the truck specs? Theres a couple manual guys in here. I'm not super familiar with the AXN swap in a leaf spring truck but I just did one in my Tahoe.

Really we need to know goals and budget and what your starting with. Pics help get people interested as well.

Sorry guess I can't see sigs from my phone.

Well for starters any axle out of an SUV will not bolt directly into a pickup. The SUVs use a 5 link with coil spring setup, the trucks use leaf springs.

I believe the best choice would be to find a 90s 1500 z71 with the towing package. They have the same 9.5sf and 6 lug as the SUV but it has leaf spring perches. There are several "how to" threads about that swap.

I agree 4.10s help get heavy trucks moving but I don't think it's super necessary with the gearing on the NV3500 and certainly not the NV4500. As far as transmissions go I can answer some questions about the NV3500/4500 but I'm not familiar with the TR4060 and my opinion of the TR6060 is that its possibly one of the the best CAR transmissions ever. However not a great option for a truck especially not a lifted one with bigger tires. It simply cannot handle ththe weight of the trucks.

The front axle from a tahoe/yukon should bolt right in as long as it's still the 8.25" ring gear model. The bigger 2500HD front differential is not a direct bolt in upgrade for the 99-06 trucks.

Awesome that's what I was wanting to find out. Yea the front axle from the SUV is all I'd be using. The rear would be form an 05-06 Vmax or SS truck. Well if 4.10s would be overkill, then I guess I can just swap a 3.73 GT4 AXN code rear and leave the front alone. I know the 4500 is a truck transmission, but what is the shift quality vs the 3500? Does it have the same shifting issues from 3rd gear at not liking any rpm over 3k?

i'd say it shifts just as slow but is more okay at shifting overall. mine feels slightly clunkier, too, but more solid.
and if i was gonna have the truck much longer, i'd put 3.42s in mine with the 33" tires.
that's going from 4.30s and with a healthy cam.

Neither of my NV4500s have that issue getting into 3rd or any gear above 3k like my nv3500 did. I agree with Zebra it is a heavy duty truck trans and feels as such. That doesn't mean you can't bang gears and have fun just takes more muscle.

I also agree if you go with an nv4500 you will want higher gears like 3.42s which is nice because then your OD runs a lower RPM and you still have plenty of grunt down low.

If you find an SS or V max rear axle post where you found It because I've been looking for one.

I used a 14 bolt AXN from a 2005 Silverado SS, it was a direct bolt up. Factory disc replaced the AXN drum breaks with no mods, but that is a rear end from a truck to a truck.
I have no personal experience with the difference between the SUV and truck rear ends, but I know an AXN from a truck is an easy swap, find one from a truck and you will have no problems.
