Default ? about outside bearing diameter on 8.5/8.6 diff's

OK, so I bought an eaton LSD for my '04 silverado with bearings so I'm good to go there, but what I would like to do is take the G80 with bearings out of my '04 silverado and transfer the carrier, bearings and races over to my '97 C1500 work truck. I know the 2 diff's use different carrier bearings but is the outside diameter of the races the same between differentials? Always wanted a locker in my work truck. It never gets abused, just for icy winter driving I want it Please let me know if I can do both swaps at once.

Ive heard (not comfirmed) that you cant put the 8.625" diffs in the 8.5" rears..

2000 is the "crossover" year.. i had a heck of a time finding Diff bearings when i put my Eaton in.. the Housings are different, where the races go for the diff..

I am pretty sure the outside diameter between the two races are the same. Don't hold me to it tho. I think the difference is the inside diameter of the bearing.

Can anyone either confirm or deny these allegations?

Not to hijack, but does this mean that my 99 has an 8.5?

It can be done, Zippy and I DID it this summer, just takes a few special bearings. No big deal.
