Anyone done an NV4500 in a 1/2 ton 4wd?
I'd really love to swap a manual into my truck. No hurry here as this probably can't happen for a good while though.
I've read the T56 threads, as best I can understand that option is still a non-starter with 4wd. NV4500 appears to be the most reasonable choice. I've yet to find any thread here or elsewhere where someone has actually swapped one into a half ton though.
One issue I can see is the position of the shifter...the nv3500 appears to be quite a bit farther forward, possibly to the point where my full length center console would need to be removed. Anyone ever seen a full length console over an nv4500's shifter by chance?
One idea I had was to also swap to very tall gears in the interest of using the NV4500's granny as a proper 1st gear, and making 5th into a fairly high overdrive. From what I can read, the granny is synchronized, but would there be any other issues here? 3.08 looks to be about the right ratio. And believe it or not GM makes a 3.08 for the front end as of 2008, it's in the hybrids.
Appreciate any suggestions...as you can probably tell this is all speculative at the moment, and this would be the most radical modification I've ever made to any vehicle.

Thanks, but is that Lord Aries? He wound up doing the ZF6 swap... https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...ghlight=nv4500
I do believe that you may need to get your ecm reflashed. Other then that, the swap shouldn't be too difficult.

ZF6 FTW baby! w00t! I love the ZF6, its big, its mean, its loud, its just flat out bad ***!
And YES you can pull hard shifts at 6,000rpm with it even though it would normally never see that beind a diesel or the 8.1L... The one thing that takes getting used to is the shifting, she likes it rough. LoL When you want to pull a quick shift you have to handle it like a man... The Granny gear is great for off roading, moving trails at low sppeds, hills and slow traffic.
I also didn't play around and used a 12.5 inch HD towing clutch from Luk... Its rated for 650HP with a 25,000 gvwr load. hehe NO slippage here... Breack my 35x12.50s loose with no protest...
By the way, AxisT6 is the man for axle builds! My 14 Bolt FF he built is the shizit! Love the Detroit Gear Locker, its a locker that pretends to be an open diff at low throttle. Unlike other diffs that are open and pretend to be locked. HAHA its awesome!
