Anyone done research on T56 with 4wd?
I remember seeing something about having to replace the output shaft or have a custom tailhousing made....anyone ever done serious research and figured out what needs to be done to mate a T56 to a transfer case?

it sure would be nice if it didnt cost an arm and an ******* wouldnt it?
manual > auto... maybe in the GMT-900s they'll have a decent 6-speed that mates to a x-case.

Not yet....I need to figure out exactly what is wrong I guess before I decide what route to go. I can either do a 4L65E, have the 4L60E rebuilt again, or try for the 6 speed swap. Anyone have any info on the T56 vs the 6-speed from the HD's? Are they the same size? I looked into the 80E swap at one time and just the supporting hardware was almost as expensive as the tranny itself, I'd like to find something that is a direct or near-direct swap.

performance wise the 6-speed they make for our trucks sucks. 1st gear is a super low gear making it pretty much useless. And on top of that I dont think its a very strong transmission
