Default Anyone shortened the overload spring, better weight transfer??

After a pathetic 60ft at the track yesterday, I am ordering 4.10s and a trutrac this weekend, the a Torque Converter in a month or so... I have been doing some reading the last few days about suspensions and stuff. I have read that Caltracs help alot and also Long Bars. I figure I can make a set of Long bars so those are on the Homemade Mod list. I have read that removing the overload leaf spring helps with weight transfer but promotes wheel hop and crappy ride quality, so the long bars should help eliminate the wheel hop. But I was wondering instead of completely removing the overload leaf spring has anyone just shortened it? Say 2-4 inches on each side?

what did the truck do off the line??? i think the main blame is the 3.42's you have in there!!! i was cutting 2.2x's and 2.3x's with the 4.8 that was all stock except a nelson tune with both 3.73's and 4.11's when i swapped. also i had and still have the overloads clamped. the way i clamped mine i had to grind the overload some to make it fit its right out on the very end of the spring NO HOP OR WRAP WHATSOEVER!!!!!! with the mods now, well read sig i think it has a good mid - low 1.7 in it.
228R - lt's - 3800 verter - 4.11's and few little things

Well last night it was a 2.5 and best was a 2.4 both with an open diff and 3.42s..... I only got to make one run last night due to retards thinking the track needed to be oiled ever other run. The 2.4 I spun until about 25mph according to the logs.... I am hoping the 4.10s, trutracs and some new tires will yield some better 60fts.....

It's An Old Hotrod Trick. I Can't Remember If They Remove 2" From The Front Or The Rear Or Both. It Works!

I need to double check my timeslips, but I think I was around a 2.3 the last time I was at the track and that was w/ my recently installed eaton and 3.73's. I really think a decent stall is the key for 4.8's to get good 60's. The 4.10's and Trutrac will definitely help, but I think you will see alot more improvement from a convertor swap. The lack in lowend from the 4.8's just makes them want to fall on their face out of the hole from what I have experienced.

Have always heard mixed reviews on the shortened overload spring. Have heard it makes for a rough ride, may not be worth the sacrifice in ride quality for a slight improvement at the track.

Yep, I have been talking to a local Hot Rod/Tranny shop that builds Torque Converters and trannies. He built the tranny and TC in my mustang and it lasted ~10 years of total abuse, I finally sold the tranny still running strong... Alot of local TBSS and super charged guys have been running his Torque Converters and having great results. I told me the TC he could build me would drive like stock until you hammer it flashing to ~3200 rpm for ~$429 with a 2yr 24k warranty!!!

If I had to do it again i would have went with 4.30's, but 4.10's are good too. The Tru Trac helped out huge. Chances are once you get it in you won't spin very easily at the track.Personally I love my 3600 stall, and it's very streetable, after a week or two I don't even notice it until I stomp it.
I'd get the diff and gears then go back to the track and see what it does. If it still has a problem, build some long bars. If it still has a problem, then think about pulling or cutting your overload. Just my .02

They did that cutting the overload springs on spike tv's muscle car. Must work if they did it on tv. I can recall whether it was the front or back either.
