Default Autotrac to AWD NVG issues?

Big Tex Link

Has anyone swapped out the autotrac case for the NVG? How much do they differ externally??

Is there any benefit from that?

I would like to know also. My autotrac is busted somehow and would like to trash the whole setup for awd. I was wondering if the frontend parts would have to be changed like the add actuator/front diff/ drive shaft/ half shafts. Also about the electronics. Does the awd require any electronics to run or could you put a 2wd tune in pull all the 4x4 wiring out. LMK if you find anything out. I have been wondering for awhile now. If the awd requires electronics it would be hard to get it to work since all the awd pcms are for 6.0ls right.

Externally, I dont think there are any differences. Best choice would be to have a PCM loaded with the manual transfer case option when going with the AWD case. Then the PCM isn't looking for the buttons and waiting to shift the case. My SS is listed as a 4WD manual transfer case in the PCM.

If you get serious about doing this, I can get you the wiring connector diagrams.

Big Tex...

Couple of (hopefully) quick questions for you:
1.) What vehicles is / was the NV149 available in? How "plentiful" are they?

2.) What input shaft options are available? 27 spline? How about 32 spline?

3.) Any clue what a new Viscous Coupling costs?

4.) Any idea of power capacity? Any idea how it compares to the Borg Warner 4472 (viscous coupling box found in Syclones, Typhoons, Bravadas, and Awd Astros)

Reason I ask is I'm working on the planning phase of a AWD baby blazer, and I want to run the 4L80E, since the 700R4 / 60E never seems to be fully up to the task. Had planned on running the BW 4472 (which is also a viscous coupling box), but its only available in 27 spline input. Which means some serious work to make it happen (like a custom manufactured transmission output shaft or tcase input shaft).

Thanks in advance.
