ok my bad, the H2 axle is the GM 12 bolt... Your Opinions? Will it be strong enough? Is the locker in it any good? It does look like an almost direct bolt in for the Avalanche but, I want to make sure its going to do the job before laying out the cash... I have a line on a complete unit with only 100 miles on it but, I have to order it tomorrow...

I believe the H2's have the Eaton E-Locker. Similar to the G80, in factory applications it is programmed to unlock at 20 mph to prevent loss of control from dual wheelspin.

hhmmm... If its an e-locker it shouldn't be hard to wire up an on/off switch to use it off-road...

Stupid Question here, would the Drum Brakes on the 2500HD Axle be compatible with the brake system on my truck? I don't see any ABS sensons on my rear axle and the brake line looks to just be a T fitting split out ot he each side...

Damn... the more reading I do the more i really want to go for the gold and get a 14 Bolt Full Float Axle... i found them for as little as $1,000.00 for a complete axle with Drum brakes, I don't mind running Drum brakes if I can. Worse part would be having the shop move over all the brakets for the trailing arms, Spring perchs and shock mounts... That could cost any where from $500-1,000 just for the labor...

But, i would thing that axle would be pretty much un-breakable...

The 14 bolt FF is a beast. Had one on my old 2500 Sub. The damn drum brakes were never right though. Drums weighed a ton. The ABS unit on that thing was also monstrous. Sounded like an ooo gah horn when it activated.

There are Disc Brake conversions for the 14 Bolt FF that I could later...

You won't have ABS problems, the sensor is in the transfer case.

Mine was a 93, 454. I ran 37's on it. ORU has a disc conversion kit for those older axles. $1000- $1500 depending on whether you want parking brakes or not.

Might need a different proportioning/combination valve.

Thats what I thought... thanks

I am really having second thoughts about the 12 Bolt, I know it is strong then the 10 bolt... but, I want something that I know will really take the power and laugh about it... hehe

I am finding some really good deals on complete 2003 Silverado 2500 14 Bolt FF axles... Even a few with Disk brakes listed on them...???

Tomorrow I am going to try to get the only shop in town that I think can handle the swap to give me a ball park price for moving all the brackets over to the axle for the factory 5 link...

One place suggested converting the rear end to 2500 series leaf springs to save money and increase the trucks payload capacity, they said it would be pretty easy to do and much cheaper then the 5 link set up. But, i am not ready to go that path... yet... unless the cost of setting up the 14 bolt for the factory 5 link gets to be too expensive... The 2500 Avalanches had Leafs w/the 14 bolt FF and they rode pretty damn good...
