Default AWD 4l80 problem

i have had the 80 in and running flawlessly until last week. i did the easy throttle break in for 200 miles as requested by yank ( its a 3000-3200 stall) and then proceeded to tune the truck making some short wot passes from 50-80 mph proboably 50 or so. trans acted perfect. then just driving around recently the trans surpasse 225 and i shut it down . checked the level all was good. trans did it again so i drained it seems a bit short obly about 3 qts came out . replaced the fluid and filter. very little metal found in the pan no more than normal for 400 miles since it was installed. drove it after and it got hot again. truck drives fine seems normal. i did log some converter input vs output speed while locked up and it does have some slip as soon as you give it gas as boost kicks in it slips for sure. the weird thing is the trans cooler and all lnes dont get hot as the trans is 200 + . opened one up and cranked the motor and had plenty of fluid pumping through it so its not blocked in the lines for flow.

imo im leading towards the converter but i have to have a shop pull the trans since i dont have the support for this heavy as 80 nor do i have a completely fuctioning arm. so i need to get the right the first time . just looking for some advice or experience with my issues .

If you are showing TCC slip, that is what is cooking the oil. How big is the converter? what is line set at?

can i log the pressure in the hpt? cant seem to find it on the trans settings.

converter is supposed to be a 3000 but seems slutier. i just need a converter that will last longer than a month behind my power.

the truck is an absolute beast and seems to run fine until you watch the guage.

i actually got a single cab srt-10 to run me . i let him get a jump and this thing had 10 legnhts in a couple seconds from 70-100 or so . it seemed like he didnt even go . the top end with turbos makes me awwwww. id say im right at 11.0 if not faster depending on the launch. trap speed will be impressive

When I said size I meant physical, What diameter? I could not keep the clutches in my ART CARR no matter what line I pushed it at. No PID for line, you have to manually log it with a gauge. Did the trans get freashend up before installing? Anything else done to the trans that I dont know of???

is there any way the return line from the cooler is plugged IN the trans where the fitting is? that would cause the lines not to get hot, but have flow as soon as you disconnected it. IMO, sounds like some converter slip to me... and you said this is with the converter locked or unlocked? Stupid question, but did you fill the converter with fluid before stabbing it in? if not, thats where your trans fluid went if you only got a couple of quarts out when you drained it... just brainstorming here...

Who built it? What is the diameter and how many clutches does the converter have?

Not that it has anything to do with your problems, however if your coming up short on fluid there is a possibility of fluid transfer between the transmission and transfer-case. It would take a set of circumstances of leaking seals between the two, but it has happened and with the work that was performed to adapt the NVG149 to the 80E, there’s always that chance. I do hope you are able to get it your real problem figured out fairly quick, but as you know anytime you go through an as extensive build as what you just did, there’s always bound to be a few issues to work through. It’s just to be expected, so don’t let it get you down. Your arm is enough to do that and I hope you heal up quickly as well.

I know this is an older thread but I'm curious. Did you ever figure out what the issue was?
