I forget the brand I have now, it's a 28k gvw stacked plate style mounted in front of the radiator. I've never had a problem since then, seems anytime the trans starts to get even a little warm the electric fans come on and cool everything down to a safe level.

That b&m cooler is neat but nothing great, the center hub section of the fan covers a lot of the available area so your really not using all of the cooler. It would make an adequate fuel or diff cooler but I wasn't happy with it on my trans.

Stick a big cooler up in the grill and it will work great, the closer you can get it to the radiator the better. I have a ton of room between my a/c heat exchanger and radiator so mine sits in that space.
Hmm, that's not good. Now I'm back to putting my own together.

What do the following terms mean to you guys, and do they matter/are they necessary? :

- LPD, or "Low Pressure Drop"
- External Thermal Bypass
- BTU vs. GVW

Now I'm looking at something close to 12" square, so I can mount a 12" fan (or a 12" fan and a thermostat) onto one.

Perma-Cool 12" fan

12" square coolers

ive got the B&M SuperCooler 24,000 GVW 11"x6"x1-1/2" all my temps stay below 200 actually they are around 170-180. which is great with me as long as it is to the left of 200. and this was in Tucson in the middle of the summer even to now.

I've got a deep tranny pan(+4 quarts), the stock tranny cooler(still), and have never seen 200 deg, even at the track on 90+ deg weather or in stop and go freeway traffic. My stock converter flashes to 2500rpm, although I am a 4l80e.

BTU vs GVW is just a different unit of measure for the heat range, or size of vehicle it can work with.

Thermal bypass. This is a little valve built into the trans cooler that bypasses a large portion of the cooler at lower temps. This lets the fluid warm up quicker as well as keep it from running too cool if you live in a very cold climate.

LPD is just that, you won't lose a lot of fluid pressure through the cooler.

From what I have seen screw the silly little fan gigs and what not. Put a big cooler up in the grill and it should work great.
