Default Balancing act..................

No the truck is not out of balance, it's the wheels. My winter chrome steelies can't seem to balance for the life of me. I'm starting to wonder if it's that chrome cap that goes over the wheel that's moving around as it turns. Can I pop this chrome cap off and have a regular looking stel whel, which I'd then paint to match the truck. Or is there a remedy like a permanent glue of sorts to keep the cap in position....................

I do not think that it could be the wheel caps.

Get a set of hub centric rings, they will do the trick.

YOu can pop off the chrome part, but I doubt they are moving around.

What kind of tires do you have on the wheels? I've never seen or been in a GM vehicle that rides perfect until I threw a set of Michelin tires on. I love GM vehicles with all my heart but never seen one go down the road smooth with anything else other than a michelin. It's the tires. Especially if the truck drove smooth before putting the wheels on. If the wheels are straight, then it's the tires. You can try finding the culprit by jacking the truck up in the back, put a 2L bottle of whatever on the bumper and take it up to the vibrating speed and see if the fluid in the bottle starts shaking. If not. Stop truck, shut off, move front tires to the back and repeat. Just mix and match tires around until you find the shaker. If no shaker, use a dial indicator to see if the tire is out of round. Tires can still balance up perfect but if they're egg-shaped it doesn't help. Check those two things out and let us know.

I have the Pep Boys Definity All Terrain{yeah- a lower quality tire, but I was short on money that winter}. The last set of Generals balanced better on these wheels but not quite as good as the set of Hankook Dynapro's for the summer on aluminum wheels that balance and ride perfect..................

I think you already know your answer, it's not the wheels......... Maybe you can see if they're out of round and bitch enough to get them to throw 4 new tires on there. You get what you pay for...........

Yeah- true, the tires otherwise perform fine. It's just that balance thing; I can live with it knowing what it is, and hey- tire's don't last forever, then I can get thos 17"s I've been eyeballing................

Oh yeah- I have the dearly beloved G80...................

P.S.- I don't think I could go back and raise a stink about anything as I've had the tires over a year now, thing is that I've hardly driven on them so lo and behold..........
