What are yalls thought on beast sunshell vs heat treated oem sunshell. I was told the beast sunshell is not balanced but better but also weighs more

The sun shell was a major issue in the 700R trans but in the 69/05/70 trans they are a lot better. A lot of the "beast shells" have been breaking lately... Food for thought. IMO I would run the OEM reaction shell.

Another option is the sonnax smart shell.

For what its worth I just had my trans rebuilt with the beast and it's smooth as butter. No vibrations or anything of that sort.

Thats what I am going to get for mine. My thoughts are buy a new shell and carry it in the truck and I will never ever need it. If thats the case that will be the best 100 bucks ever spent.

IMO there is no reason why they didn't make the shell out of the same material and have it be the same thickness as the drum it "splines" into. It might have made it a 10 pound part but who really cares if its going to be 10 times stronger.

Before GM treated their sunshells, I had one fail that I had just put in after 11 months. The truck was under warranty still and it got the treated shell. Didnt have another problem.

I had the beast fail and so did another member at the same spot at the thermo weld around the spline if it only happened to me I would say I have **** luck but when others report it it's more of a problem if I had to do it again I would go updated OEM

If you go with the beast shell you need the wide rear sungear bushing. The beast is a heavier unit then the oem. I have never broken one or seen one break. if the beast does cause a vibration it will be in 3rd gear, but this is usually when the beasy is used with the oem narrow sungear bushing.

If anyone has broken a beast please post up pics, and let us know if it was used with a stock or wider rear sun gear bushing

The guy who rebuilt mine said that the newer GM heat treated shells are failing too after some miles on them. He told me to use the beast and I will be happy, so I did.
