Default BOOM!! Time to pick a transmission

The story:
Trans has been slipping for about 3 1/2 years now after towing. Mostly during low speed stop and goes and when taking off from a light feels like it starts in 2nd then back down to first which jerks then takes off. I know GM had a software issue that caused the trucks to start in second during takeoff but I have a BB tune and he used the latest software update that eliminated the software from being the factor. Today I did a full throttle kick down from a 30 roll, I had to quickly let off the gas just as the truck was shifting then BANG. I knew it was the trans. No first no reverse. The truck wouldn't move once it stopped. After a while I got it to sorta limp in D to get out of the road and did bind up and stopped moving, then stalled. No fluid leaking from anywhere. Tried to start and it wouldn't turn over!! I had to rock the truck to get it to turn over and start. I'm thinking the torque converter is broken or something is holding the flywheel. The truck runs fine once started.

Specs:
2003 Sierra 4.8 4x4 4L60E

Plans in the future:
KB kit or custom build with similar size turbo
6" lift with 35 inch tires

Use of the truck:
Mostly just driving to and from
Once other truck is done pulling a flatbed with S-10 on back
Silverlake sand dunes/Off-roading a couple times a year nothing to crazy
Loads of gravel few times a year
Occasional stomping of unsuspected mustangs

Trying to narrow down choices and right now I'm on these 3 companies.

1.Performabuilt
2.FLT
3.Rossler

I'm looking at the level 2 from performabuilt, but I would love some opinions on all. I would like to stay under 2300 if I can. Any luck or stories? Any other shops to consider? Any shops in the Detroit area?

Any input would be good. Found good stories about these but am up in the air.

Ill just say it before anyone else..80e swap...if thats not a option, look into a RPM 60e..go to there website and check them out. Also, there about a hour north of Indianapolis, which would be about 4 hrs from detroit...within driving distance..

I would love an 80 swap, but I don't think it's in the cards at the moment. Even used ones are expensive around here the last time I checked. Thanks for the info. I'm gonna look into RPM.

You can get an 80E with convertor for around $1000 with a 3yr/100k mile warranty... Look on ebay. I know you are 4wd and have more things to swap then 2wd but it could be an option.

I like what rpm is doing based on the website..looks good. Im gonna revist the 80e option again too and keep the window open on that. I love a firm shift so i would like to get something done to the 80 if i could. Im going to revist the sticky for this swap but still look at my original plan if the 80 swap looks like it may take a while. Thanks for the feedback guys..

Ive been convinced on performabuilt, but only because theres only been one bad thread on them. You can find bad press on everyone else easily, but it took a lot of googling to find someone with anything negative about performabuilt.

I'd just run a 80e w/shift kit myself. Grab a junkyard one and a transgo and then save more to get it rebuilt if you ever wear it out. There is really no reason not to use an 80 except for parasitic drivetrain losses. Theres too many people here that can justify to a 60 being only a matter of time before they explode, that then throw in an junkyard 80 and run it for years after several built 60s in a year or two.
