Default Broke my trans, I love having spare car parts!

Anyone else have spare parts laying around "just in case"?

I have an extra set of axles for Ginger ('11 SS vert) and an extra transmission for The Beast ('03 Turbo Escalade ESV). Finally took The Beast to the track with the Turbo this weekend. Just before I left the wife tells me I better not break the truck since I just got it fixed. Well she jinxed me, I only got one decent run in and on the second I broke my forward sprag clutch in the tranny. Limped it home, parked it and didn't tell the wife. Today while the wife was at work I swapped out my built broke tranny for my stock one and The Beast is back on the road and the wife is none the wiser!

Hooray for spare parts!

How long has the trans been together and how hard did this trans shift? Do you know what kind of input sprag was used?

Almost two years, tranny shifted pretty hard. It was built by Chase "built408". Not sure what sprag he used but when I called him he said he had gotten some bad ones a while back. I think only the sprag broke because I could manually shift it and every gear felt fine on my way home.

It wasn't the shift that broke it. My AWD truck torques so much that it smokes the front left tire. So much that the RPMs bounce around violently during the 60', that's where it broke and gave me a shitty 60' on the first run. Before I go to the track again I'm going to chain down the front end if the truck.

Im pretty sure he used a BW dual cage sprag. I would probably ask him to install the sonnax hd 2-3 shift valve to help the sprag out some. Also if the trans shifts hard into 2nd it would be a good idea to tone that down some as well. No doubt that the traction issues are not helping with the weight of the truck but I'm pretty confident that the other things I mentioned will help! Good luck keeping this from the wife!

Yes it has a BW sprag. Not sure why it broke, have to take a look when I get it apart. But wheel hop will kill it pretty fast at your weight/power.

Yeah, I think it already has that in there. I put some parts in it and then he rebuilt it when 3/4 clutches went out a couple years ago.

Yeah I knew I was asking for trouble the way it was torquing off the line but I finally had it tuned and wanted to see what it did at the track.
Let me know when i can drop it off, weekday mornings or early afternoons are best for me (when the wife is at work ).
