Broken 80e!

Even putting down substantial power, 10k is unacceptable for a converter refresh. It should not need maintenance that often, especially with a purpose-built torque converter. I wouldn't blame a stock converter for doing something like this after less than 10k, but a Yank...come on.

When I was removing my trans, I noticed my clearance was a tad on the large side. Wondering if that could have had anything to do with it...

Did this trans have the full HD-@ shift kit? Prob gunna jinx myself but I put the whole transgo kit in mine including the clutch pack springs, followed the directions word for word. It's going on it's 4th year of abuse. Ran many 9 sec passed on the street, and pulled trailers cross country with it. Other than the shift kit, and sprag the trans is 100% factory GM.

Lol Jarrett, you were actually my motivation to run the stock 80. It was a full HD2. A clutch upgrade couldn't hurt, though. Considering how little clutch material was in the trans, most of the clutch damage had to have been done before I got the transmission.

I bought a built 80E used. I don't know who built it. Put a new PI Vig triple disc in and that was 3 or 4 years ago. I tow my car, boat, and beat the **** out of it and no problems. 6,000lb SUV and 500lb/ft.
It seems odd that some can have zero problems with an 80E and others burn through them.
I'd say my PI converter has over 20k miles on it and some of that is with serious tow duty. (as in 6 hour trips pulling 5,000lbs)
If I paid $800-$1200 for a converter and it crapped out in 10-12k miles, I'd be raising hell.
