which built 4l60 for semi built >400hp 6.0
Hello everyone.
Need some advice. Currently have a 2000 nbs tahoe with 5.3/4l60e combo. 6" lift on 20x12's and 33's with factory 3.73 gears/g80.
About to hit 195k. Current trans was replaced with a new oem spec one at 70k. She's getting some slippage and plans are to replace her sometime after new years with a built one. eventually i want to get a 6.0 in front of it with some mild bolt ons, maybe a cam but really don't need any more than 400 hp. no plans for forced induction.
Looking around, i'm really liking the FLT level 3. My only worry is how it will handle the 6.0 when that time comes. So that is my main question. Do you think it will hold down the fort with the 6.0 in front of it? or should i go with a higher level? Maybe a different company?
also worth noting is after the engine/trans swap i have plans for a 14 bolt 9.5" sf axle swap with 4.10's.
I appreciate you input! thanks for reading

I had my local builder do mine. turned it into a 4l65e, 5 pinion front and rear planetaries, upgraded z pack 3-4 clutch pack, beast sunshell, normal upgrades and shift kit along with my tt3000 stall. I beat the **** out of it on a daily basis and ive had no problems, even with the heavy *** 24s, which measure out to 32.5". Just gotta be careful on the 4-2 downshifts on the highway since its such a heavy vehicle. Ive had mine going on 3 years in january and about 50k and no issues..been through 2 rear ends though lol
those gears will take wear and tear off the trans as well..i was going to go with a lvl5 if i went with flt, but it was cheaper to go local. I basically had him build the lvl5. Gotta remember these trucks weight near 6k with wheels and a system..
I run 80% TM removed daily, and 100% with the tow/haul with my BB tune and it shifts great..nice and easy when I want it, and when im on it, firm and no slop at all

I hate the fact the 60e has a badd rep...yeah its a hard trans to build right , but get the build done right and you can beat the snot out of it..
My last build in my Camaro went 10.19 with a ss4000 stall, zero issues in 2 years..going with a bigger heads/cam setup this coming year and see what happens...many builders have been able to get mid 9's reliably in a 60e
You can get a good parts list for a 60E but the way its assembled and TUNED is key as well

I would be looking into a well built 60e with 5 pinion planets, sleeved input drum, billet output, billet pump rotor, "SAP" beast, sonnax shift kit, added clutches in the 3-4 clutch, wide band and just an all around a good build. Pretty sure FLT will not sell you a L3 for your truck and I know that I wouldn't. The main reason why most guys have these transmissions fail or grenade hard parts is because of the simple fact they go with a cheap build. Do your self a favor and don't go cheap! Best of luck.
