Default Built trans help

So I got my 02 tahoe built with a supercharger and the trans lasted about 4 days , hahaha ! My question is , I was just going to swap to a 4L80 but what’s the advantage in this trans vs a built 4L60 from someone like monster ? I mean if I get a 4L60 built for 1000hp and I have less then that wouldn’t it be a easier swap and as good as a 80?

I know there are reputable builders out there that tout the "built" 60e but with the combination of power and the weight of your rig, you'll chase that elusive unicorn to the tune of a crap load of cash. The 80e is a much better transmission and even in stock configuration can handle more than almost any built 60e. The swap is easy if you take advantage of the knowledge shared here. Did mine in a weekend after I had everything together. JMTC...anybody else?

Oh...and DO NOT buy a transmission from the company you mentioned. Not a good rep here. If buying a unit outright use FLT or other sponsor. If buying used for rebuild there are plenty of good suppliers with kits built for power. I used a Jakes Stage III kit for my rebuild and haven't had a problem with it. I killed two "built" 60s with my NA Stroker truck...save yourself the ***-pain, brother...DO THE SWAP!!!

Thank you for your response ! It’s what I needed to hear, I’ll just spend the money and do the swap for sure . I’ll search on here for more info. I believe I just have to change the cross member but I’ll start doing my homework! Thanks again

There is an interesting thread over on ls1tech that popped up a couple of weeks ago about how to get an OEM (read, original trans, not built) trans to live while being boosted.

I would think the same also applies to non-boosted, based on the content of the thread.

That is a good read. My only concern is weight.
The majority of the guys over there are in 3800lb cars.
Quite a bit less than OPs Tahoe.

Although it weighs more, based on the article, keep shift points stock and pull timing through the shifts and it will help the 60/65e with longevity. Many decided to disable the torque management and up shift points, which, do they say, causes more shock to the oem parts.

I added my 2 cents on the LS1 page. Most has been discussed.

The weight of the trucks combined with power (over 550ish) Can kill any built 4l60e relatively quick.
