Default bypass the factory radiator trans cooler?

After hearing horror stories about dex-cool getting the the trans via the internal radiator transmission cooler and killing the trans i was wondering if any of you have tried bypassing the cooler in the radiator and running it straight to an aftermarket cooler in front of ac condensor? I am really considering and want to know if there are any pros/cons.. thanks for any input!

...I have been bypassing the radiator and just going through an aftermarket cooler for roughly 5 years now.

This is how mine is run. No thermal bypass either without any problems. It is recommended to double the size of the size cooler you think you will need when running it this way because air doesn't cool as well as water. So a 40k tru-cool would be sufficient for your application.

Where do you live, and will the truck be driven in the winter? If you have cold winters and drive the truck, I'd run it through the radiator.

I ran a B&M Super cooler, I just took it off to do more mods, I found a lot of trash between the trans cooler and the AC cooler. I didn't have a temp gauge on it so I'm not sure how hot it was getting. It lasted 2 years before I broke the pump out of the housing.

If you have a TruCool 40K sell that external thermal bypass as the 40K has it's own internal thermal bypass...seems like Roger (AKlowrider) is the only one who read the box lol

The Tru-Cool has 2 versions. With and without bypass. Just an FYI.

#4739 - With Bypass

#47391 - Without bypass
