Not to highjack this thread but I have a simmular situation......my pinion seal is leaking also. When I installed my lsd, we R&R'd the seal and when taking off the seal, we noticed that it looked like there were two seals on there???? It was weird......I can't explain it at all. Anyways we replaced it and the thing is still leaking. Now, how can the pinion yoke be the cause of this seal leaking???

bumping this up for anymore insight on this. i'm having the same problem. fluid is leaking from the pinion seal area and is all over the under carriage.
i just rebuilt my rear on my Z71, everything is new: eaton lsd, motive 3.73's, all new bearings and seals, axle bearings/seals.
i've searched a bit and what i've gathered is the seal that comes with the install kit leaks or the solutions that have come up in this tread.
thanks,
Lance

Check the pinion yoke. If there is a groove in it that can't be polished out or you can feel it with your fingernail then the yoke needs to be replaced with the new seal. Put pipe sealant on yoke splines and reinstall. Don't overfill the diff and make sure vent tube is clear and not kinked.

mine leaked right after i had my diff rebuilt, i used the seal with the kit. i dont worry too much about it. i just make sure its always at the proper level, below the fill hole.
