Change color of ATF
I want to change my transmission fluid to synthetic and obviously want to change all of it.
The obvious way to do that is to empty the converter through the cooler inlet line.
If I change the color of the fluid in the system ( right now it is bright red) to say blue or green, and then empty the pan and change the filter, the fluid in the converter will be a different color.
Then, while continually adding new synthetic fluid to the pan, I will be able to identify when the old fluid has been completely pushed out of the converter.
So, what do I use to change the color of the old fluid?
Or, do I just use some other fluid to flush, if so, what?

All ATFs are red as far as I know. You are best off to service the trans with a new filter and pan gasket, refill with dextron III.Synthetics can cause leaks to appear and they are good for metal to metal proyection but some say the extra slick fluild is not so good for the clutch plate to steel plate. The dino dextron III allows them to grip better. You might consider a vette servo if anything else.
Your right, you may only get out 4-5 quarts by removing the pan,dry is around 11.Luckly you have a drain plug, once serviced use the drain plug a couple of times in 50-100 miles after you service it.Assuming the fluid was starting to become discolored.
