Thanks. No not really that hard but I could see it getting that way. I also think it looks fine. In fact started the tear down for the final button up. Messed up the new pinion seal so I'll have to finish it up tomorrow.

looks good to me also. my backlash eneded up being around 7 but thats not to bad. i just finished putting another g80 in mine, (it was the cheapest route at the time), its the third time ive been in my rearend, and ive learned alot. this time i put all new pinion races, pinion bearings, axle seals, pinion seals and new carrier bearings. when i save up a lil more ima go back with a detroit in the rear and 4:88's front and rear.

Wohooo. Its in and 15 miles on it. Sounds good so far and I can feel the little extra pep.

Had to make another trip to the tool shop. Sears. My cheap little impact gun would not touch the crush sleeve. I needed a good impact anyway.

All and all not so bad. Hope the rest of my upcoming projects go as well.

I know alot of people use inpacts to install their pinion nut, but I wouldn't. if you crush to far there isn't no coming back, with that crush sleeve anyway.
Did you replace the pinion nut?

The pic you are calling the coast side is really the drive side. Actually the pinion is a little too deep in the gear. If you look at the pattern it has a sharpe edge down in the tooth and at the edge it fades a little. A .035" shim probably would have been dead nuts. It will probably will be ok anyway because the OEM style gear is forgiving as it is a 2 step face. Most critical thing now is breaking it in correctly! How much backlash did you end up with?
