I looked up the part number of #88965505 on GM Parts direct and they have it for $52. However, they show it as a "REM" part, or remanufactured. So, are they now just rebuilding the bad ones? That may be why yours went bad again so quickly because its not the new part but the old one reworked in some way.
In the TSB they show part #88963611 for the 1500 series trucks and #89060582 for 2500, 3500, Yukon, etc. Why are the part #'s different for the bigger trucks? Can it be used on our 1500's? Does anyone know? I am searching around for the #88963611 as I want the new part, not some reworked thing (they probably have had so many of these that GM decided to fix the old ones....and it seems that might not be working). Maybe I am just nuts but GM Parts Direct says that #88963611 is not available thru them....so perhaps I am not nuts. I have a 99' with this issue. I bought the truck with 59k and now it has 90k (only 19 months later) and I have had the issue since I got the truck. Hope it doesn't fall apart before I get the new one!!!
So, what do you all think on the part #'s and if we can use the other one for the 2500, 3500, etc trucks?

Oh, I am new here but I used to post all the time on the WS6 and F-Body sites when I still had my LT1 T/A....still miss that car......

Same experience on my 03. The shaft was replaced at about 9k mikes and at about 12k, it started clunking again. I'm just waiting for some other reason to take the truck to the dealer again to get it replaced.

What does the noise sound like? Constant clunking?

I have a moan that is only heard when I bank around a right hand turn, like a jug handle (if you guys know what that is) that you would use to get on a highway. Been to the dealer 3 years ago for it and they couldn't fix/find it, and then again to another dealer and they basically screwed me for a diagnostic fee and didn't even try to fix it; gave me the run around.

I never hear much from it as much as I can feel it in the steering wheel.

Sorry, steering is not part of the drivetrain.

The clucking is at low speed 0-5 mph when hard turning for me. The moaning sounds like powersteering especially a hard turn into a jug handle the rack & pinnion has to work harder to hold the line I would say drain the system and fill with new cheap dot 3 fluid go do some serpintine driving flush it again a use premium sterring fluid see if that work. My wife's car does the same thing but its a ford mustang so I don't care.
