Jesus dude, it's been this long and you still haven't tried to see if it's the slip yoke or not?

I can almost guarantee you that's what it is.

lol well i kinda had my mind set that it was something with the brakes, since it happened after new brakes, but like 3k miles after...i hate getting under the truck here at school since its a gravel parking lot...i head home for break tomorrow though so i should get a chance..the entire suspension is getting redone in the spring, so between that and greasing the slip yoke it should be taken care of..

Hey i know im new here but i have the same issue, i just got this truck handed to me and its an 02 Autoride LT with the optional auto 4x4 as well. While i was having a buddy install a muffler for me i was shaking my driveshafts to see if my u joints were bad. Long story short no play in the joints at all but the output shaft on the t case or slip joint whatever is loose going to the front shaft, it will move about a 1/4 inch up down side to side ect.

The guy also does transmissions and rebuilds t cases and he said it may be the carrier bearing in there, i will update in this thread when i have him look at it. Hope that helps, just go out and shake your front shaft and watch it where it goes into the tcase see if it moves any.

Can ya PM me some info on your 6.0 swap by the way.

just an update...last night i put new brake hardware on, greased everything, new shocks on front, checked all bolts on the link bars in rear, greased the ujoints, greased the slip yoke, etc and it still clunks...it did seem better last night on the ride home, maybe beacause it was warm from being in the shop, but today its just as bad as it was before..

only thing i forgot to check again were motor mounts and trans mount...but it happens as regular as a clock ticks..every time i brake fairly steady, and every time i hit the gas after a stop..it will clunk when i first hit the gas, and sometimes when it shifts hard into 2nd...

anyone else have ideas? i dont know where to go from here..im getting new shocks for the rear, replacing all steering up front as well as using lcas to lower it, so the stock keys will be going back in..maybe its something with the tbars being decranked?

Steering shaft? I just replaced my old white bearing with the new green one and it fixed the clunking I was getting and took away a good amount of road noise too. Cost me a whopping $24 and about an hour. I'll find the link to the thread...

hmm this could be the cause of my "rattle" i have when i hit bumps..it sounds like its coming from the left front, which seems like right under the dash..i have to check that out...but it wouldnt be making the clunk i have...you can feel the clunk..its really solid..sometimes sounds like its on the left and sometimes on the right...

i still dont know how to be exactly sure that it is my slip yoke..

could I pull the rear drive shaft and take it for a test drive in 4x4, and see if it still clunks or not?

Smokeshow said something back in sept you might want to look at axle wrap. Have seen this first hand mostly on 4x4. Look at your spring packs on the rear look towards the ends should be some plastic pads inserted between the leafs over time they wear fall out if gone replace and put some kind of lube on them. Yea I know it sounds dumb but it helps.

Tahoes have coils in the rear...i dont really know what else to try at this point..i might call up the trans shop here that built it and say i have a clunk, see if they will test drive it and figure it out
