I'm not sure on what the differences are but I know that there are differences, also there is a difference between the 60e and 80e flexplate. Here is my Flexplate that Yank sent me with my converter, it has a raised section in the center like you were talking about that i would assume acts as a spacer of sorts...

I'm running the same flexplate as Julien, which has 1 bevel, and my factory 5.3 flexplate has 2 beveled areas which led to the 1/16th inch gap on my 5.3 to 4l65E combo. What motor and trans are you running?

Well it is a 5.7 LS1 from a camaro and a stock truck 4L60E. When I pulled the 4.8, the flexplates looked the same so I just dropped the 5.7 in with the flexplate it had on it. About to go figure out what my problem is right now though. Hopefully it works out.

I think that a general rule of thumb (on the NBS trucks) is to use the flex plate that was bolted to the engine that was pulled out...

What happened? You push it in too far? Past the third click? Or did you try to bring the tranny up to the engine with the bolts?

I'm pretty sure it was the second one. First time we tried mating the motor to trans it didn't fit snuggle when trying to bolt it in.... after trying to pull the two together with bolts, then brought the motor off, found the converter wasn't seated all the way, clicked it in, then bolted all together. When we try to turn the crank, there were some noises in the bellhousing and the converter got stuck. Waiting on a friend to help me drop the trans all the way out to confirm this.

yeah thats pretty common, Ive picked mine up before and had to drop it, re-seat the converter and then take it back up to the motor.

Oh yea.... I broke the pump gear. Found some metal chunks sitting on the end of the converter when I pulled it out. Looks like I got some repairs to pay for. Stupid me

Don't beat yourself up over it man! Think about how good you'll be next time you do it! I was nervous about the 3 clicks when I first did mine too. I put the converter on, heard three distinct clicks and thought, well just to double check lets to that again, so I pulled the converter off and this time I felt like two muted bumps. That's when I realized all the splines had aligned from the first time and no way was I gonna hear those three clicks again!!
Anyways, next time you do it measure the distance from the converter pad to the bellhousing once the converter is believe to be fully seated and it should be JUUUSSSSTTT over one inch, like 1.030" or something.

Best of luck man!!
