Gamedawgx53, Working from memory here. We had the private message thing going, you helping me make sure things were okay. Anyway. Verified that the PI was at 6.5" overall length. The same as the stocker. With the trans in the truck bolted up to the engine. The stocker coming out. After unbolting the stock verter , it slide back to at least 1/4" to 5/16" clearance flex plate to bolt lug. I was like WTF it isn't supose to be that much. Going back in with with the PI the dimension was the same. Mind you this is eyeing it through the access holes. I went ahead with the install. I've got a couple hundred miles on it so far. No problems. Things that make you go hmmmmm...

The LS1 pattern is definately 11" and 10.75" is not right for a LS setup.

KySilverado - I have a TCI dual pattern LS1 flexplate here. It is a flat plate but, spaces everything the same as the "bent" stock style plate. If you have one of the bent plates on now the TCI plate should work fine for you and it definately has a 10.75" pattern along with the 11" LS pattern. You should be good to go with the TCI. I'll take some close up pics tomorrow to show everyone.

it seems to be an epidemic going around
be it grinding flexplates shimming or whatever

I was just attempting to point out that sometimes
companies do make mistakes
mistakes that shouldnt happen in the first place
especially with a $$$ converter
all dimensions should be within tolerance
build height ,bolt pattern etc etc etc

but anyways
1/4 to 5/16 sounds like alot with the stock verter

have you checked the crank endplay?

fwiw
my pump broke at 250 miles due to excessive clearance

hope it works out for ya

Agree with everything you say..... I'm just trying to make a bad situation work now. Chalk it up to experience. Hopefully I'll get out of this without destroying the expensive parts ahead and behind the verter.

I think the flexplate grinding will work long term. Now I'm concerned about the clearance. I've not checked endplay but I'm confident its okay. Stock motor at 35K miles. Did you shim your verter with the clearnace problem that caused the pump failure? I'm basing I'm good to go based upon the dang stock verter had so much clearance. Ignorance is bliss sometimes. Had I not had access to all this info I would have felt comfortable with thie clearance because it fits like stock.

Spoke with PI again today. They called back. Guess what, I got the wrong bolt pattern on my verter. The story is they pulled the wrong print and made the wrong plates. Seems some others were getting ready to get the same... mentioned going and cleaning off the shelf.

They are making me another verter and shipping it along with a new flexplate. Once I get the old one out I call and they will send UPS to pick it up. I'm out the labor to install another verter and flexplate.
