cutting coils??
just trying to get some thoughts and see if anyones actually done it on our trucks.
I know its ghetto rigged and all but has anyone cut an inch or more off factory coils?
Im scraping the **** out of my frame, LCAs and front cross brace, I dont have a job yet and if I can do it without the truck riding like **** Ill cut my factory coils 1", where I want it to be. Just wondering if anyones got experience with it?
Thanks guys

I think people think it's ghetto because they are told it's ghetto. Heating up the coils is ghetto because it alters the spring rate, however cutting coils isn't much different from buying aftermarket drop coils.
I believe the general rule of thumb is 1 full coil is ~2" of drop.

sweet, thanks
I compared my 2" belltechs to factory and they're alot thicker. Not worried about that just worried about too much drop. I was going to take and compare the two then measure them both and take the difference, minus one inch for the factory coils of course, and then go from there.
Do you think (sake of argument)... the factory coils are 24" and the 2" drop coils are approx. 22". If I were to cut the factory's 1" (23"), in theory that should equal 1" of drop correct? or does it work different for this scenario?

It's hard to give you stone confirmation. There are different coils for different trucks. V6 trucks have different coils than v8 trucks. A single cab has a different spring rate than a crew cab. An 06 truck is going to have less coil sag than a 99 truck.
There is no way to get stone facts with this. If you need it to be precise then cut a little bit, install them and then cut again and keep trying it until you are satisfied with it.

i have also been wanting to drop my truck a lil more up front right now i have 2/4 belltech drop but would like it to be more of a 3 or even 4 up front. keep us posted on how it rides if you do it and what you used to cut it

No matter what, the smaller the coil is the shittier it's going to ride. If you want to go low then cutting coils isn't the answer. It's a good way to get an extra inch or maybe 2, but cutting a 2" drop coil is ridiculous and will ride as such.
Go with DJM control arms or spindles and drop springs if you want to go 3" or lower.
