d@mn P.O.S. G80
Went to the track this past Friday night. 1st pass I launched easy 2.13 60ft. 2nd pass I tried to launch a little harder and I hear "bang" "bang" a familiar sound. At launch both back tires started to spin slightly but then the driver side back tire stopped and started spinning a couple times. My truck did the same thing when it had 30,000 miles and I had the G80 replaced under warranty. Another 30,000 miles and the G80 going out again.
I'm going to order an Eaton positive unit but I'm trying to decided if I want to keep the 3.73 gear or go to a 4.10. Where is the best place to order the Eaton Positive Unit?

Get AAM 4.10s and a detroit trutrac from Ron's Machining Service on ebay. Best service and shipping and best price too. The trutrac is really freaking awesome. It's completely transparent when driving, but locks up perfectly when traction is lost.

A friend of mine has a 98 model extended cab silverado with a 383 and STS Turbo. He is running the Eaton and hasn't had any trouble with it, which is why I was going to go with the Eaton. I do have friends with 4x4s that run detroits. They too work great but seemed a little noisy when they lock/unlock when turning. I'm going to do a little research on the detroit trutrac.....thanks for the reply.

sucks to hear Mason.
i'm running the eaton lsd you speak of and motive 4.10's.
i set up the gears and the unit myself @ 25k miles. now 57k miles & over 300 track passes later it's still getting the job done. if your stuck between the 3.73's and 4.10's just go w/ some 3.90's.

OEM AAM gears cost a whooping $50 more than Motive gears ($150 vs $200) and only $10 more than Yukon gears and are superior. Ron will take care of you, he has for many members here

Also, here's a nice read on the Eaton LSD vs. the Eaton Detroit Trutrac (Eaton also makes the G80 BTW)
