That is damn cheap. I get more than that for labor, plus around 175-200 for the gears.

Default praising 4.10s

You guys with 4.10s like to give me an educated guess on what a 3.73 to 4.10 swap would help me in the 1/8 th. 04 5.3 ec magnaflow, k/n , predator.best of 9.89 1/8 mile.Or should i get a converter. Thanks, Rodney p.s. the spray is on. Got to get to the track.

Tire size is the determining factor in this equation. I only have a 3.42 gear but run a short 28" tall tire. This is different than a simillar truck running 3.42 gear and a 33" tall tire. You need to put all of the variables into the equation in order to get a good answer to the question. Also, keep in mind, that by switching to a 4.10 gear you will for a fact 1)Have more problems with tire spin...which could cost you all of the performance you just gained...or MORE...and 2)You MIGHT need to shift another gear in the same distance (1/8mile or 1/4 mile) which again might cost you more performance. In other words, if you were going thru the traps in 2nd gear...you might now be in 3rd gear...and we all know the power drops off on the gear changes which cost some ET. For me, I've thought about it, and it just wasn't worth it. For someone running a 20" wheel all of the time with a large tire like a 275/55/20 or so then I think a 4.10 rear would really help. Most guys seem to be switching out to a shorter low profile tire anyway, and most with a 14 second truck (or faster) are already suffering from tire spin, especially with a converter. You need to really consider everything as I said, especially tire size, tire spin, and if you are running a converter. That is more than my .02 cents!

Save your money! I wouldn't expect that tenth at the most would be gained. Here is a calculator which might help. When I swap out my 20" wheels with a 31" tire for my 17" wheels with a 28" tire, I usually go about 2-3 tenths faster. Most of the difference in the ET (I'm sure) is made up due to the fact that the 17's are 30lbs lighter per wheel (and tire) than the 17's. The shorter 17's raise my gear ratio to approximately a 3.68 from a 3.42, so that helps a little, but again, most of the ET is gained in the weight of the wheel and tire.

I was going to get 4.10's until I got my new cam....that got me all kinds of power down low, so I decided to stay with my stock 3.73's and just replace my G80 with a true Eaton posi.

Though I am seem to still be tempted on occasion (like when reading this thread) to slap in the 4.10's when the posi goes in. I have 31.6" tires (305/50-20) and the truck really does seem a little doggy at first, but all-around behavior is good, especially on the freeway, with the 3.73's....

Also, I've head OEM gears are the way to go, unless you don't mind noisey.
