Dana rear swap?
My son just picked up an 03 Express van with a 5.3 in it. I was surprised to see it has a Dana rear with 3.73's a locker and disc brakes. I wonder if these would be a dirsct bolt in for our trucks? I know my 10 bolt is living on borrowed time! Anyone ever done this swap?

You can actually put a Dana 60 in our trucks you just need the car end so the brakes can bolt onto. I think all you need to do is enlarge the bore hole on the backing plate.
Car Craft did a story on this a year back or so and they used the same brakes on a 12 bolt and dana 60. The story was a comparison of hp loss with the 12 bolt 9 inch and dana 60 if you wanna search it up.

I got my guy at the salvage yard on it. He thinks the van rear might be a little wider which would rule it out for me, I'm tucking slicks now. I can measure the rear in the van but my truck's in storage and can't get to it so if someone can get the inside measurement on a truck we'll compare. I talked to Moser Eng. and they say a Dana with 35 spline axles will stand up to my 650 RWH no problem.

Stock is about 68" from WMS to WMS. I have a 6 lug 14 bolt out of a 96 2500 in my 02 that is 65" which didn't leave much clearance on the leaf springs with the factory wheels so I added 1.5" wheel spacers on it. The narrow 14 bolt may be better for you if your trying to fit wider slicks.

Didn't know the 14 bolt goes back to 96. That narrow one would work great for me , my leaf springs are gone with the airride 4 bar. My local salvage yard can't find a 14 bolt they need a part #, I thought GT5 was the rpo but they say that means 410"s
Does anyone know what #'s the salvage yards use?
