DD/toy hauler gear suggestions
I have a 2008 silverado cc with the anemic 4.8 nothing more than LTs and tune. It's still a turd coming out the hole. The truck was purchased soley as a tow vehicle but when my white z caught on fire, the big beast got designated as my dd also.
I have a 21' VIP wich is a decent load for the truck, and even with my 16' flat you can definatly tell it's back there.
I have a TB converter, but am gonna do gears first and see how that helps me. It has 3.23's now and everything sucks. Even my mileage. Partly because it isn't transfering enough power to the ground in over drive so it spends a good bit of time dropping into "passing gear"
I have 32" tall tires so I was thinking 4.10's were the way to go. I did a little looking on some gear calculators and am thinking I may be a tad high on my RPMs at 80 (that is if I was ever to excess the speed limit. You know if I needed to rush a ferret to the vet or something)
I considered 3.73's but been there with the 32" tire only with a cammed 6.0 under the hood. Not thinking the 3.73's are going to make me happy.
Soooo what's yalls take? Some aftermarket name bran 3.90's, or GM (or aftermarket) 4.10's
Also, what are some decent name brands as well as brands to avoid?

I went from 3.42 to 4.11 on my RCSB 5.3 with stock 31.6" tires and it pulls a 6,000lb trailer A LOT easier. It's more fun to drive too. I do a lot of city driving and in fact my mileage went up as you don't need to press the pedal that much to get moving. In the highway it went down by 2mpg but in overall mixed driving conditions my mileage stayed the same.
I guess it really depends on how much highway driving you do, how often are you over 75mph and how often do you tow.
IMO you should get at least 3.90 gears, but 4.11 sounds even better.

4.8 cc and purchased solely as a tow vehicle all made me LOL.
Stupid GM needs to quit offering the 4.8 as an option in a CC.
I'd bump it to 4.10's and I really like my 4.30's. I should check with my friend to see what gears his CC 5.3 has but we pull our 18' VIP Vision with no issues at all in his. I think he may have 3.73's and stock tires.

with that 4.8 your gonna want to atleaset step-up to GM 4.10s..
some motive 4.30s would be your best bet IMO...
i have a 4.8 with 33s and 3.73s, im gonna be steping up to 4.30s here pretty soon..

Lol. I guess I could have been a little more detailed.
I bought the truck soley to pull the boat 5 miles to the launch when all 4 kids were in town.
I wasn't thinking when I typed that. I'm not pulling a 32' travel trailer all over the us with it lol.
With it being my daily driver I do a good bit of highway driving (right now 90 miles a day back and forth to work) so I'm not gonna go any lower than 4.10's. That's pretty much what I was set on guess that's still what I'm leaning to

Is that a CC??? I thought it was a EC hence I said 3.90 at least. Forget it, 4.11 at least.
My Yukons have been noise free since day one, no need to spend the extra $$$ on OEM gears IMO.

I understood what you meant, It just made me laugh the way you had typed that part. GM really does need to stop offering that engine in a CC. There's no reason for it IMO.
If you have an auto 4 speed I'd go with 4.11 - 4.30. I drive just under 100 miles a day 5 days a week with my 4.30's and don't have any complaints other than missing 2nd gear being able to go all the way up to 90 when I had 3.42s.
