Good luck with it, I just pulled my built by me 80e out for the second time since rebuild. first time was valvebody issues and now my torque converter wont lock-up. It has been a steep learning curve and I'm very mechanically inclined. You can do it but dont expect a sucessful rebuild the first try. BlackGmc has an awesome writeup with lots of pics.

I appreciate the feedback based on your experience. I always enjoy a good challenge. Hopefully no one will triple dog dare me or it might be game on.

Well I got the tranny out and pulled the pump and this is what I found. Clean break. Has anyone just replaced the shaft in this scenario or does the whole tranny need to be gone through?

Can you take a closer picture of the break from the side? Like the second picture but a closer. Just want a closer look of exactly where it broke at.

It is literally right where the chaffing of the spline begins. Perfect example of how stress risers are the pin point of metal fatigue failures.

Yep, thanks. Wow that was a clean break. I wanted to compare.

Here is how my billet one is cut.

It certainly felt like a clean break, it was the instant I left off on the 2nd gear pull so the TC was unlocking and there was just too much thrust.

Who's shaft is that? that one shouldn't fail at the same point.
