differential bolt heads stripped

Default differential bolt heads stripped

was going to change my diff fluid the other day and the head of the one of the bolts stripped. any suggestions?

die grind a notch in it so you can get a flat blade screwdriver in it then hit it
with a dead blow hammer and hit and turn tell it bust loose.

Yes you can do that. If you have a welder, you can also weld a nut to the end of the bolt and then get a wrench on the nut.

Grind the head off the bolt, then use vise grips to get it out...after the cover is off. Or like said weld a nut to it..

If you just want to change the fluid, I'd take out the drain plug under the differential and then refill it through the fill/check plug (obviously haha). I didn't know these had drain plugs on the bottom till tonight when I put my TA girdle on and saw it under there.

if you are one of the lucky few that have a drain plug on the rearend.

Id try the notching it and use a flat head screwdriver... if that doesnt work, weld a bolt or nut to it and try that.. if thats not successful then just grind the head off and use visegrips..

If you have a welder....save alot of mucking around and just weld a large nut to it.
