DJM 4/6 here with no complaints. Recently have been thinking about going a little lower, doubt it will happen though. Only thing that scraps is the tranny crossmember. I hardly ever scrap mine though, just have to be careful. Like said, if you get a raised crossmember (have to raise your ypipe too), shouldn't really have any problems.
If I remember correctly, with 245/40/20s (27.7" tall), my tranny crossmember is about 2.5" off the ground, the frame is about 3.5", the valance a few inches higher. It's raining now or I would double check.

I like my 4/7, but since I fixed the chevy lean by trimming the pass. coil, it feels like a 5/7. I have my crossmember raised and my exhaust as well. I kept the frame braces by flipping them over, I only had to bang one with a hammer. Since I went to a 255/35 20 (27") from the 40 series (28"), my frame scrapes a lot more, but I don't mind; theres nothing to hit down there.
Sectioning the crossmember isn't that hard. Even if you don't have a welder, you can have the welding done by a shop. First decide how much to section the crossmember. I removed my crossmember then cut/ground the welds holding the cap to the crossmember. Then I cut the crossmember down about an inch and a half to inch and three quarter. Weld the cap back on the crossmember and your almost done. Install the sectioned crossmember and cut off any remaining brackets with a grinder or cut off wheel. I boxed my brackets under the frame for more strength, but its really not necessary.
