Post Do you use silicone or a gasket for your rear diff?

the rear diff has a slight leak so im going to be redoing it. the last time i did it i used the gasket and siicone. some have said just use silicone.
what do you use?
If you use silicone, how long do u let it sit before adding the lubricant?

spread it evenly on the cover and put it on, I usually only give it a few minutes before putting the cover on, never had an issue

I prefer to use a factory gasket. Whatever you do never use both. Also make sure there is no fluid leaking onto the sealing surface before you get the cover up.

GM paper gasket, dry, never had a problem.

This ^^^ There's no reason to run sillycone on a gasket EVER if it's properly installed.

Clean diff, straight clean cover and gasket has always worked for me.
