Downshifting an automatic?????

I've been downshifting my 80E for some time now. The truck and trailer loaded are often around 14,000 lbs. I just try to down shift it before desending the hill and not to be too ruff on it. I had a service done with Amsoil and filter and they picked up nothing on the last one. So I assume go for it.
