Drivetrain strength...
Hey guys i searched but i couldnt find out how much HP the drivetrain will handle in a 2001 1500HD... looking to do a DIY front mount turbo like i did on my 98 TA and around 600rwhp...
I know the 4l80E is good with minor work...
but what about the rear?
Transfer case?
Axles?
also, what upgrades are there to strengthen everything up a little???
Thanks guys i appreciate it!

not familar with the rear in the 1500 HD, if you have the corp 10 bolt (8.6) its a c-clip style axle, so if you do have the 10 bolt i suggest going to a different carrier since the g80's are weak, getting a c-clip eliminator kit, as for axles, strange and superior are very good quality decently prices, chromolys are some strong axles, if you have a 14, id just suggest a good locker, 14s are pretty beefy even stock, i mean there usin em in dmax's with 600+ft lbs, i dont see ya havin any probs with it, a little insurance by goin to better axles wouldnt hurt it just all depends on your budget...
as for the t-case...if your planning on doing 4wd launches...well it aint gonna hold parish (one of the nastiest nbs trucks out there)has some crazy heavy duty t-case, his vids are on youtube if you type in parish silverado, i dont believe hes a member here so your best bet would be to ask him on there if you have an account
4L80 with a sk, vette servo and additional trans cooler will handle some power, not to mention def run the tranny cooler if you deicde to run a higher stall

he doesnt have the 8.6... im pretty sure they got the 9.5" rear end... which is pretty stout...
4l80e with a shift kit can handle at least 450-500 hp with no issues... i dont know what this guys talking about with the vette servos... ive never heard of that for an 80e..
i dont know about the transfer case.. but the rest of the truck should take a turbo...

Just to put an end to the misinformation:
1500HD has a 9.5" 14-bolt rear. It is strong and will probably handle what you will be running. Your axles are fine. The duramax has a 11.5" 14-bolt rear. Its a beast.
You already have a HD transfer case. You are good to go there. I don't know what model it is. "Parish8" also just used a standard manual shift HD transfer case. I believe in his research he found it capable of 2000ft-lbs or so... (Parish8 is a member here, he sold that truck long ago. He build threads are most likely buried pretty deep.)
Lastly, most recommend a shift kit and it couldn't hurt. You won't ever find a "vette servo" for a 4l80e because it does not use servos like a 4l60e does.

a shift kit only 4l80e will hold a ton of power. i would say mine let go while running in the 10.60 et range at 5000lbs. even then i think it i was the converter that died and took out the tranny.
from what i remember the strongest tcase were the manual or electric shift units from a 2500truck. the auto 4wd ones from a 1500 truck were rated at around 1/2 of the tq but i wouldn't be afraid to push one of those to 600/600hp/tq.
