You're going to install a drain plug? Mine already had one from the factory.

 

Yeah, but can ya get it open? Tried that on my Yukon & Silvy, and the plug laughed at me. Then most of the folks I know say that you won't be able to remove it.

 

Mine came with a plug from the factory that is a torx fastener...that POS stripped in seconds. I even put a floor jack and block of wood under the rachet head to hold the socket in there deep and tight (as soon as I saw the Torx, I knew I was in trouble ) I unbolted the pan and drained it the old school way. I believe they changed it to a regular 6 point fastener in 00 or 01, but from what I've read, they too are way over-torqued from the factory. You may be able to remove the factory plug once the pan is off and you have it on a bench, in a vise, then just install a new factory drain plug and gasket...probably have to hammer the poop out of the plug with a chizel or something and risk damaging the pan though

 

yeah i got it open, but it was REALLY tight. it started to strip. next time i do a service im replacing it with a new plug

 

Mine did not come with one so I had to add one. Only like $5 at the autoparts store.
