Eaton LSD slack
I put an eaton LSD in my 9.5" 14bolt a few weeks ago and there has always been some slack in the spider gears. I can turn the tire by hand and the shaft will move slightly in the carrier until the spider gears contact, maybe 5 degress of play (just guessing), but enough that I can feel it when driving going from forward to reverse or vice versa. The ring and pinion is tight, almost too tight since its hard to turn by hand, and the contact pattern is good.
I called an offroad shop and they said it was normal with the eaton lsd, so I thought I would ask you guys. Im just worried that there being slack there could damage a spider gear.
Also for you guys with the eaton, how easily does it lock around turns? Mine seems to lock easily and I can hear the tires chirp occasionally.

What eaton LSD are you referring to? The clutch type one? I just installed mine last week and there's no "slop" or slack. It's instant on in both forward and reverse. It chirps a tad going around corners but that's ok for me

Looks like a beefier version of the same one I installed (14 bolt). I have 2 questions for you. What's your gear backlash set at and then secondly, why aren't all the springs yellow? Mine were all yellow springs. Did you buy the posi new or used? Something tells me the springs are color coded and somehow you got mixed springs in there.

Im not sure about the backlash. I had a shop install the new ring and pinion and lsd since I was in a hurry and didnt have time if something went wrong with me doing it. It is very tight though, I can barely turn the pinion by hand whereas my 10b I could spin it with a finger. Its this shop I called and asked about the slop.
I believe the yellow on the spring is the chalk/paint he used to check contact pattern. When I opened it back up to change the oil the spring wasnt yellow anymore.
