Also started the pump mod required for the PI converter. Ran into a small snafu. Gotta get the trans off the engine stand to get the pump out.

With the PI converter, they recommend an additional spring in the Converter valve.

First remove the pump. Undo the bolts and lightly pry it out from the back side with a screw driver. Also note my fancy transmission mount

Once the pump is out you have to split it to get to drive the pin out that holds valve.

Its been documented here before. But to get the new spring over the valve you must grind this ridge off.

Springs installed. Re-install back into the bore and re-install the pump.

looks good. i will refering back to this when i do my shift kit in the 80E.

there is a write up on the transfer case around here somewhere. i thought the swap was easy. it was a lot less stressful then putting a shift kit in my 60E way back when.

Good to hear you got it straightened out. I like the fancy trans cradle you got there. I call that using your resources! In some cases I feel it is easier to install the pump with the trans standing straight up. Might be something to consider. Nice wright up and the pictures are worth there weight in gold! Keep up the great work. Vince

Pulled the pump back out of it today. I didn't like the way it went in and couldn't turn the input shaft. I think it was the pump halves not aligned ummmm PERFECTLY. Was about to jump in the car and head out to find a couple long radiator clamps to align them when I had an idea. I just loosened the pump half bolts and finger tightened them back up. Then I dropped the pump into the case and let it line them up. Carefully pulled the pump back out and tightened them back up.

I also took Vinces advice and stood the trans up on it's end. This lets everything center up in the trans better. New gasket and o-ring on the pump and it dropped right in like I think it should. Started 2-3 bolts to make sure is aligned right. Couple taps with a rubber mallet and it fell right in. Rest of the bolts in and torqued down. Now the input shaft will spin by hand.

Anyway everything is ready to start the swap.

Hope you and anyone else can make use of this thread. You did see the snafu I made with the trango kit I hope.

Thanks for the input. If the transfer case mod was less stressful than the shift kit install I'll be tickled.

Great write up i just finished installing my 4l80 in my tahoe 4x4 just waiting for drive shafts and tune for 4l80 i started it up and it pulled two codes po785 shift/ timing solenoid malfuntion and po740 toque converter clutch circuit malfuntion. I ran the vss to pins 22 and 23 on the red pcm connector and i swapped the the brown wire with the white wire at the trans connector. i hope the tune will fix it. thanks for all the great info its nice to see someone doing all the work themselves i cheated i got the trans built buy a pro, but did most of the other work with a good friend with a hoist. i wish i could help you with the transfercase but i found a 4l80e and auto track case together.

Thanks.

The codes you are throwing I would expect without the segment swap. The 80E is short one shift solenoid and no TCC solenoid.

yes without the tune thanks for the quick response. One more thing i had problems putting in the transfer case i had to take the studs off the case and lower the cross member for the torrsion bars, mabye just for the tahoe i never looked to good under ec pickup good luck.
