Default Extra labor for gear + posi, instead of just posi?

I'm getting a posi put in, but am considering a gear swap as well. There should be minimal extra labor, correct? I mean, they have to take the gears out anyway, right?

yes, they have to take the gear off of the open carrier and bolt them back on the posi carrier. the only additional thing they have to do with a gear swap is take out the pinion gear and put shims and bearrings on.

i installed my own posi. it was the 1st time i have seen a differential before. if i can do it, anyone can. so i am not sure what the going rate is. i am guessing $100 would be a great price for just posi. give or take, depending where you live

I don't think I'll be doing the gear swap. The total bill goes from just under $700 for the posi alone, to over $1100 adding a set of OEM gears....$255 for the gears, $40 for shims & seals, and another 2 hours of labor @ $55/hr.

Mine was $1700 for the GM 4.10s, the locker, install, and all the parts they had to replace when I tore up almost everything in the rear end.

So my G80 wouldn't be worth something to some poor soul with an open diff and a 4200 lb truck?
