Default Finished with 14 bolt swap...Vibration

Me and some buddies of mine swapped out my 10 bolt for the 9.5" 14 bolt Friday. As it turned out, I ended up needing a bastard u-joint for it to work. For those of you wanting to do this swap, I'll post the part number for it later.

Everything except for needing a different u-joint went smoothly. Now that I have it in, I'm feeling a slight vibration between 50-60mph. I don't think it would be my tires. The only thing I could think of is that there is a balance issue with my driveshaft. Either that, or something's up with this u-joint I used.

Do you guys have any ideas of what could be the issue? I'm glad it's over with. I just hope this isn't the beginning of new problems.

Sure thing. It came out of a 2005 1500 Silverado extended cab with the 6.0. The salvage yard told me it came out of a 2WD SS Silverado with the 6-lug 9.5" 14 bolt with a 3.73 gear. It also has the drum brakes. I ran the VIN # on the truck and it brought up the 6.0L and said that it had the 3.73, so I got what I paid for. It only had 473 miles on it and was involved in a cab fire. I guess you could say that I was lucky to find it.

Other than the slight vibration between 50-60, it feels perfect.

Compare your pinion angle to the transmission output shaft angle. They need to match.
I am guessing that the U-joint you needed was a 3R (driveshaft) to 1350 (pinion) adapter joint.

I'll have to check the angle later. I'm nowhere where I could do that right now. But the u-joint I used is a Neapco part # 2-1153. I basically just needed one that would fit a 1500 driveshaft and a 2500 yoke. A bastard joint

I'd be interested to see how much it slows your 1/4 time by. Many people preach that it takes alot more power to spin one, Im wondering how much it has an effect on your times. Any plans for the track any time soon?

The 9.5" is only about 8 pounds heavier. It feels faster. I plan on going to the track maybe this coming week if I can get this vibration figured out. I was hoping for it to be faster after going from an open 3.42 to a locking 3.73!

Wasnt talking about the actual weight but they say the added diameter of the ring gear blah blah blah will make a decent difference.

I sure hope not. I only went from an 8.6" to a 9.5".

Thats why I dont understand why people say not to go to a 14 bolt due to "all" the drivetrain loss you will experience. Me personally I dont see it either.
