How hard is it to get the driveshaft out of balance? I think I might have a reason for the vibration. When we had the driveshaft loose, I started the truck while it was in neutral and it bammed and frammed all up under the truck. Had no idea it was going to do that. Anyone think that could be it?

Yes, that could damage it. These shafts are made from thin-wall material.
Did you check the angles? Do that first...

Get a magnetic angle finder from the local hardware store. Lowes and Home Depot both have them. Rotate the driveshaft so that the slipyoke axis and pinion yoke axis are vertical. Measure against the flat surfaces of the yokes. The angles of the transmission and the rear end shafts should be inversely proportional exactly.

you need a 410 gear to make it move up and out gm motors love RPMS but the 14 bolt set up would be the best.

Well, this is my daily driver and I didn't want something as extreme as the 4.10. I'm going from an open 3.42 to a locking 3.73 and that's enough for me.

Didn't want something extreme???????

$1600 for a fricking gear swap is insane! I ran my 01 and 02 trucks to 13.7s with the factory g80 in them no problems. Only when I upgrade to 3.90 gears in the 02 did I go with the eaton posi. The 8.6" 10-bolts in the trucks are plenty fine....it's the 7.5" 10-bolts in the camaros the break too easy.
