If it'd be capable of 12flat & hold up reliably under a RCSB platform, I'd like to stick w/. a 60/65 style tranny. Boost & I like to thrash on whenever I feel. Canucktrux, not tryin to jack, but I think the answer we get to your questions & mine will better inform us both.

what kind of power are you planning on making?
the 65 will have less power loss . if you planning on like 600 rwhp id stick with the 65e. they have been proven to hold up to this kind of power with the correct parts.
mine held up good . stood up to at least 20-30 1/4 mile runs going 11.8> XXX in a 5500 lb truck.

a while back before flt came out with their lvl7, their lvl5 wastheir top of the line 65e. they said with the weight of our trucks, 550rwhp was the max, reliably. no some have pushed it further, but flt says that they dont believe the trans will last as long at those levels. but maybe they found away to make the 65e better for a lvl 7 but it looks to me like its just the old lvl5 with all the options already added like billet shafts and the like.

just do a fully built 60e or a 65e IMO im not a fan of the way the 80e shifts plus your going to have to do some stuff to even get the 80e to fit i think your going to spend more money in the long run with a 80e and if you dont plan on drag racing your truck every weekend i think a 60e/65e will do you just fine

The 80e shifts alot better than the 60e. The gear ratio in first was not even noticable. In fact with the stall it is a hell of alot faster. I went threw four built top of the line 60e's last year. From two different manufactuers. One a site sponsor, the other a reputable builder in houston. All at about 480rwhp.

What don't you like about the way an 80 shifts, the crisp, precise feel that each gear change gives, lol. A 60/65 is a sloppy feeling slushbox in comparison.
