I found this thread when google'n our IFS diff's, also came across a place called drivetrain.com that offers bearings using Timken Bearings that I've heard people talking good about

-In the thread you can see there are metal locking tabs to prevent the carrier bearing sleeve from backing out

Timken bearings are the ones to have from what i've read. It's also imperative to get the updated spanner nut locking tabs from the 07-newer models. Either way, the dang things are still prone to problems.
I still can't find any info on the web about mechanically locking the spanner nuts into place. I looked at a spare diff and can kinda visualize drilling a hole through the case, welding in a nut to reinforce the hole and provide a passage to installing a locking bolt to hold the spanner still. You could jimmy-rig it by getting everything installed right then spot welding the spanner to the case. Would have to throw it away if it never needed a rebuild again though.

I'd like to know, because my drivers side bearing is shot or "loose" if I can fix or replace it w/o removing the whole diff unit? In the rebuild thread I posted it seems as if I got a slide hammer I could pull the axle and seal. Does the bearing remove from the "outside"? If thats the case I will fix mine quickly this way with one bearing, one racer, one seal and I guess one of these "updated" locking tabs?

Pretty sure that you have to crack the front diff open to replace the carrier bearings, just like on a rear differential, but I've never had one apart so I can't say for sure.
I'd like to see pics of the 07+ retainer plate and the previous one side by side, if anybody buys the new one and rebuilds their unit
