Unhappy G80 is being a weirdo....

I had to park on some grass this morning when I went to work and it had been raining. well, when I left out of the parking spot I spun some and I also noticed that my driver side rear wasnt engaging.... It did the same thing leaving a light later on the same day on wet pavement... is it broken?? I havent heard it making noise or anything. Then again I have heard of these things having a mind of their own sometimes.... LMK what your experiences have been with these things. I'm kinda worried about mine.

Question

How old is it? How many miles are on it? Is it possible the clutches are worn out in it. Then again, I'm not sure if the G80 has the clutches in it.
Try changing the fluid with Mobil 1 or Royal Purple full synthetic 75w-140 fluid.
You will need at least 3 qts, though most call for 3.2 qts. You can buy 4 qts, but it's not cheap per qt. Do not use an additive or friction modifier.

my G-80 worked better with penzoil, than with the factory stuff with additive. now it has penzoil w/ GM additive, and it works bout 5% of the time.
so i cant wait till i get the Eaton LSD and 3.73s!

You are not supposed to use an additive in the G 80. It needs to be a full synthetic 75w-140 fluid. That's what it has in it from the factory.

My G80 does the same thing....singles out, makes noise sometimes, and works perfect other times. IMO the G80 is just a POS ! I have been debating going to a 4.10 gear and with the way the g80 been acting I might just do the gear swap and put a good posi unit in there while I'm at it.

mine would NOT work right with only synthetic. Changed it and put additive in it and works all good now.

I like my eaton, and its rebuildable when the clutches wear out. Auburn makes a good unit and I think detroit has one too.

Every chance I get I profess the virtues of the Eaton Posi. It is a product that delivers on all its promises. It works consistently and predictably always. Install it and forget about it. That is my experience with it. They have EARNED my endorsement.

I think it may just be getting too many miles on it. it has about 90K right now with the 3.42's... I'll try changing the fluid again since its getting about time anyway. I was going to either go with an eaton or a powertrax anyone heard of these being worth a crap??
