g80 go bang!!!!! what to get
well as i was coming back from the dunes today i blew the rearend. im looking to start researching parts. what is all need when putting together a nice solid, near bulletproof daily driver rearend.
i like to rag the hell out of my slow truck so i am going to need something that is going to hold up to burn outs, holeshots, powerslides (wet/dry).
what all is need to do a rearend? these are what i got so far.
Locker/limited slip
better ring and pinion
master rebuild kit
im thinking about a detroit truetrac as my limited slip, do you think it would hold up well? i also want a good ring and pinion something that isn't going to blow out like my buddies PORN_1 percision gear when he put a cammed 6.0 to it. what are some good companies and types of material for the ring an pinion?
thanks for any help

The ring and pinions all use the same material. All street gears are 8620 steel. The OEM gears are the quietest, so just stick with them. As far as the diff goes, I would say Eaton or Detroit depending on your tolerance for a locker. As for the master rebuild kit, make sure it uses timken bearings and get a solid spacer.

Any distributor can get you the spring packs to do the conversion to either 200 or 800 lb bias, they are 400 stock. Some vendors will actually do the install, or you can have them order it from Eaton that way(that is what takes the longest). Most vendors would just order the parts and do the swap themselves. The 800 lb bias is overkill on most applications. Unless you have a vehicle the loads the one tire waaay harder than the other it is uneccesary. Some builders will go as far as to leave the springs out and just pack them tighter. I am pretty sure Moroso used to offer their brite strength diff that way, and it is almost identical to the Eaton.

We had the 800 lb Eaton in our 6.0 shop truck RCSB with 3.90 gears, axles, Cal Tracks, Hal shocks, 28x12.50 ET Steets 550 RWHP 11.70 and the best of all 1.52 60" times, all the time I think thar posi has seen at least a couple hundred 1/4s and its still alive. Takes a lickin and keeps on tickin!
