Default Gear Oil FYI

I just got back from getting the additive and oil for the rear gear change. Guess what, they said OEM is synthetic. I probably got raped of the oil, but it is WYNN Synthetic 75w90. I still needed to get the additive.

Do you have a posi(saw your sig)? If it's an Eaton you don't want synthetic. Not sure on the other brands though.

The G80 locker calls for syn 75w-90, with no additive. If you have a limited slip diff, you'll want to run dino gear oil w/ the additive (used to be known as whale sperm I believe)

I meant to add that the oil and additive were purchased at the dealership. And yes, the G80 is staying in there for the time being. Recommended from dealership to add the additive along with the synthetic.

A mechanical Locker, i called it a LSD earlier lol, doesnt need a additive. But i dont see how having additive in it will hurt it.

i put dino oil w/additive in with my G-80 and it hasnt been locking. so im goin to change it this weekend with just Dino oil.. and see what happens. Or i just might wait till i get the Eaton w/4.10s.

What is suggested for the Eaton LSD?

SORRY, im not hijacking this thread......

Seems like conflicting installations. I may just put the oil in and then if it starts to act up, add the additive. Hell, the additive has been the cheapest thing so far. As far as LSD, just got tired of waiting for the cash to come in.

- Eaton G80, 75w90 Synthetic (I say Eaton G80, as they make em for GM)
- Eaton LSD, probably still 75w90, dino oil, with additive.
