GEAR SWAP - from 3.23 to 4.10 /4.11 - what all is necessary after gears installed?
.
Need a little help please...
For those of you that have actually done the swap, and are running this setup, any suggestions will be sincerely appreciated.
The plan is to install 4.10 / 4.11 gears in a 2006 Silverado Crew Cab 1500 1/2 ton with 4.8 motor and 31.8 inch tall tires.
Is this a good gear for this truck? It certainly is pretty lathargic in its stock configuration with 3.23 gears and the 4.8 with 31.8 inch tall tires.
Do the aftermarket gears fit on the 3.23 carrier without having to buy a special gear set or different size carrier?
After the install, what all has to be done (if anything) to recalibrate the speedometer and/or shift points of the stock 4 speed automatic transmission? Is there anything that has to be done?
I'm guessing a full tune would be nice, but the truck will remain absolutely completely stock other than the gear swap, so I'm thinking a used 2nd hand Hypertech Programmer will be the least expensive way to correct what needs correcting if this is similar to other vehicles than need the speedo, etc corrected after a gear swap.
Any suggestions are most appreciated.
Thanks

I swapped from 3.23's to 4.11's. All you need is the gears, install kit, 2 qts of quality fluid. The master install kit comes with bearings, shims, gasket, crush sleeve, pinion nut...etc. That would be a great gear for your engine/tire combo. You will need a tune or handheld to correct for the gear swap. IMO you can get a good tune for less than a handheld, either will work tho.

XXX2 4.10's will make up for the excruciating lack of torque the 4.8 provides at low RPM....speaking from experience....i picked up 9/10th's in the 1/4 in my last truck with nothing but a gear swap from 3.23 to 4.10

I was in the same boat as you. I swapped from 3.23s to 4.10s about 6 weeks ago. I've got a 4.8L crew cab also. You're gonna hate it in Drive if you do any highway driving. But, change it to 3rd & it changes it's attitude pretty quick. I've got a Blackbear tune for a 3K stall right now but I'm still running the stock converter(for now)

Not sure what you mean regarding "Hate it in Drive"??? ~ Please explain, or elaborate a little more on this please...
Does it go down the highway at 70 or 75 without running too high of RPM's???
How does it feel and run without adjusting Torque Management??? I'd rather just correct the speedo if it shifts fine and shifts at the propper shift points if it is not necessary to get a full tune.

Get a tune......so worth it. Figure addind almost 800 rpm to your current rpm at cruise speed. If you cruise 70mph at 1500 you'll now be 2300. Not a big deal IMO. But treat yourself to a tune

agree with skyhigh, get it tuned! I just swapped, and have 31" tall tire, 4.8 in my Yukon, from 3.42 to 4.11's and love it. Still have only about 60 miles on break in, but already feels better.
Install them, then get it tuned...well worth it!

if he's gonne leave it pretty much stock, i say go 4:56. i truly believe had i went with 4:10's
i would have been dissapointed, in all seriosness it really wasnt a huge difference going from 3;42's to 4:56's.
im also running a 31'' tire.
