Gearing selection for 285/55R22 and 6L80
#11
I agree, with lower gears first will be useless and second won’t be of much use either. I wish I could get a second gear start tune but I’ve been told it’s impossible. My 6l80 won’t hook up in 2 wheel drive at any speed under 55 mph gears would amplify it I’d think, your heavier truck may help but I doubt it…

Most likely. I come from a Jeep background so I am always sensitive to the effect increasing tire size has on limited engine performance. This is why selecting tire size first and building accordingly is the most logical thing to do.

I run mine in autotrac at the track and if I’m running someone but the rest of the time it’s in 2 wheel to save tires and fuel. You need to do the final drive calc for the 6l80, it’s low even with a larger tire.

Even with a PD blower. Why on earth would you need 4.11? I spin all 4 thru the 60’, that would just make it worse.

Meanwhile I am doing 4.88s with 35s in my 6L80 swapped Tahoe 🤣
I am at 5500' ASL, tow a lot and don't really care for MPG, so maybe my use case is too far removed from what everyone is suggesting, but I love gear
I agree you can have too much gear, but if you're under or at 2500rpm at 75, you don't have too much gear. Imo
